MINNESOTA NATIONAL COLLEGE FAIR
The Minnesota National College Fair will be held in October.  It is held at the Minneapolis Convention Center.  A number of universities from all around the country will have representatives available to discuss college admission at their universities.  Mrs. Litsey has a list of colleges that will be represented.  You may also check out www.nationalcollegefairs.org for the most updated list of colleges.

COLLEGE APPLICATIONS
Students applying to service academies or exclusive private colleges should apply for admission in September.  Later may be too late.  Most Minnesota private colleges would like students to apply before the Holiday break.  Many stop accepting applications by February 1.

The University of Minnesota system recommends that applications be completed by December 15.  Most state colleges and universities suggest you apply in the fall because some programs may fill quickly.  Apply as soon as possible.  The same applies for Community/Technical colleges.  Some programs like Law Enforcement, Diesel Mechanics or Nursing fill up very quickly and may even have waiting lists from the year before.  Again, contact the schools that you are interested in.  Remember, it is never too early!

How can you apply?  Most schools encourage online applications. You can ask the counselor for assistance with every step of the application procedure.  If you cannot find information for the school you are interested in, the counselor can get it for you.  All you have to do is ask.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Updated scholarship lists will be updated monthly on the school website and I will also email all seniors information as I receive it on scholarships.  Keep checking and apply for every scholarship that you qualify for.  Also check out the “Financial Aid Sort” feature and scholarship list on the MCIS program. Ask Mrs. Litsey for help if needed.

ASVAB TESTING
The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is the entrance test required for the various branches of the military.  Military personnel will be at MLHS to administer the ASVAB to juniors in the Fall each year.  Seniors who are interested in the military may also take the ASVAB at that time.  See Mrs. Litsey to sign up.

CAMPUS VISITS
A number of schools have fall open house events which provide an excellent opportunity for you to meet with faculty and students and get a feel of what attending their school would actually be like.  Good days to plan campus visits are school holidays (MEA, etc.). The counselor is more than happy to arrange these visits for you.   All campus visits requiring school absence must be approved by Mrs. Litsey.

CREDIT CHECKS
I will be meeting with all seniors during the months of October and November to go over credit checks and post high school plans.  Don’t be afraid to say “I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I WANT TO DO AFTER GRADUATION!”  A majority of you are probably in this situation right now, and the best thing to do is be honest about it so that we can help you with this decision making process.

UNDECIDED/UNSURE/CONFUSED
If you're still unsure about what life after graduation holds for you, you are not alone. No one expects you to know exactly what you're going to do with the rest of your life.  However, the more planning and research you do now, the more prepared you will be to make a decision when the time comes.

Have a good year!
