Congratulations Danny Lilya!

Danny Lilya entered an essay contest sponsored by Minnesota Hockey and the Minnesota Wild Hockey Team. His essay was selected #1 out of 124 essays submitted! Congratulations Danny and the entire Lilya family!!!!

Danny's essay:

I love playing hockey for the Minnesota Sled Hockey Association because I just love hockey! I am 10 and a paraplegic and have played for 4 years. I am the only student, ever, to start school permanently in a wheelchair in Moose Lake. Hockey is for everyone and my parents drive 2 hours every Sunday so I can practice and 2 hours home. Last year the Disabled Hockey Festival was in Blaine and I got to go and this spring it will be in Texas. My team is renting a coach bus and my mom is going with me! My team is AWESOME! We did get to play a scrimmage during a MN Wild Game a couple months ago and I got the only goal! I know what fame feels like now. The horn blew, the lights flashed and the crowd was yelling! It was amazing! I woud like to scrimmage against the MN Wild! We maybe wouldn't win but that would be fun! I would like my essay picked so I can let my brother's team go instead though. He plays for the Moose Lake Area Hockey Association. He is on the PeeWee team adn they are really good players! The MN Wild game is on January 10th and that is his 12th birthday. He would be so excited if I could win this for his team on his birthday! Thank you, Danny Lilya

Wall of Fame to Induct Two New Members

Two new members will be inducted into the Moose Lake Schools Wall of Fame on Thursday, Feb. 2 at the Moose Lake gymnasium during the girls basketball game.

Margaret Sandahl Thomas

Margaret graduated from Moose Lake High School in 1959, and received her BFA in graphic design from the Minneapolis School of Art in 1963. After receiving her MFA in photography from Ohio University in 1965, she was hired by The Washington Post in January 1966 as its first female staff photographer. In 1987 she was named Still Photographer of the Year by the White House News Photographers Association. During her 40 year career as a photojournalist Margaret covered the White House, Congress, the Reagan-Gorbachev Summit in Geneva, the reunification of Germany and many other major news events. Although she has photographed many national and foreign political leaders, her passion is documenting the lives of ordinary people. In 2007, after defending her dissertation Through the Lens of Experience: American Women Photographer, Margaret earned her doctorate in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. Margaret Sandahl Thomas donated her photographic and personal archives to the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History located at the University of Texas at Austin.

Bruce Paulson

Bruce earned his diploma from Moose Lake High School in 1950. He attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He played basketball for UMD for 4 years, 1950-51 through 1953-54. He was a prolific scorer as well as a strong rebounder. He also played football, 1950-51. He was a starting tackle as a sophomore. While attending UMD he spent his summers as the Swimming Instructor and Recreational Director at Moose Lake, 1951-1954. In 1953 he saw the need for a summer baseball program. That program still exists today. Upon graduating from UMD he taught physical education, health and science and coached the football, basketball and baseball teams at Moose Lake in the 1955-56 school year. He worked in education as an instructor, counselor and college administrator. He earned his Masters Degree from Cal State-Los Angeles and his Doctorate in Education from UCLA. Dr. Paulson retired as Dean of Student Services at Mt. San Antonio College.
