Pickleball Open Courts

We’ll have the nets set up, all you have to do is join us!  If you don’t have your own paddle, borrow one of ours. Bring a partner if possible and let’s have some fun! This course if free, but, please register and let us know how many nets we should plan on.

Open Gym for Families & Adults 16+

Bring a ball or two and enjoy a little exercise.  The gym is open to families, as parents of youth 15 years and younger MUST remain on school property-no drop offs.

Walk The School

You’re more than welcome to walk the halls in our new school.  We have roughly 1,300 steps to our hallways-come on it and find out for yourself!  The school halls are available from 6:00 a.m.-8:00 a.m. and 4:00-6:00 p.m., Mondays-Fridays while school is in session.

Youth Driver’s Education Classroom

Community Education offers teen driver’s education in cooperation with Mille Lacs Driving Instruction (MLDI) The goal of MLDI is not only to have students pass their driving test, but to help them become safe drivers.  All instructors are licensed by the MN Dept. of Public Safety. Classroom instruction prepares the student to take the MN permit test. Classroom locations will vary between ML High School and Barnum High School.  *You must call or email MLDI to register.  320-676-3409

“Board” Saturday  I

Run, skip, bounce, paint, play cards, make a porcupine, eat a baked pretzel, shoot some hoops, try out your new inline skates, have a Sorry tournament, use the wifi, visit, make a Jenga tower, get a tour of the new Fitness Center, eat some cookies, chat with Mr. Konietzko, glaze a bisque mug, build a Lego castle, play Uno, sink a Battleship, and we’re just scratching the surface!!  Watch for more information on the school’s website and facebook page. “Board” Saturday  II

We’re having a sequel to Board Saturday I-but with new projects and activities!   The gyms will be open and we’ll have lots of good snacks and merriment!!! FREE, FUN and an all-around great way to spend an afternoon with your friends. (We’ll also be taking suggestions for projects & activities during Saturday I for II.)

55+ Drive Refresher & Eight Hour Courses

Save 10% on your Auto Insurance.  The MN Highway Safety and Research Center at St. Cloud State Univ. developed this program, specifically for Senior Drivers.  It consists of 8 hours of lecture, discussion and educational videos. There are no written or behind the wheel tests. Upon completion of the course, drivers over the age of 55 are eligible for a 10% discount on their auto insurance.  Topics covered include: Habits and Attitudes, Tires and Traction, Signs, etc. Please make payments to MLCE prior to the class date. Belly Dance

If you're looking for a new way to exercise this year, try Belly Dancing!  Each 7 week session is open to both beginning and intermediate level students.  Instructor, Maura Corey, focuses on applying the movements associated with belly dance to exercise.  The class will include stretching, review, intro to advanced movements, a short aerobic routine & learning a choreographed dance.  *Please register with the Comm. Ed. office prior to class, we need your email address in case of weather cancellations.

Dot Mandala Class  

You don’t need special skills or even painting experience to achieve great results. Instructor, Leann Oman, (cousin to the Butkiewicz’s)  will show you many tips and tricks so you’ll get the hang of it in no time! Mandala painting is the art of using dots to create intricate geometric compositions. The base is a circle, known as the mandala.  You’re sure to enjoy this class and will bring home patterns.

Pasta for Tutti!

Learn the art of making pasta from wanna-be Italian, Vicki Radzak, and if she can do it-you’ll have no problem!!  You’ll mix up a batch of egg pasta from scratch, learn how to roll & cut the old-fashioned way, and get a chance to try out a pasta machine.  A fragrant batch of Ragu will be simmering on the stove, waiting for your pasta!

Pallet String Art

Here’s your chance to finally try your hand at this fun project!  Let us do all the prep work and gather supplies- all you’ll need to bring to class is a hammer!  You’ll receive a short demonstration on cutting and putting together a wood platform and pattern making & then you’ll hammer in the nails and learn a few stringing techniques.  We’ll be using an inverted tree pattern, similar to the one in the photo. You’ll take your finished art home & have the know-how to make your very own string art project! Tim Caroline, Instructor.

April Owls

Create a beautiful 12"x16" Friendly Owl on Canvas, based on the artwork of instructor Charlene Herrick.  No experience necessary!  All instruction and materials are provided and you leave with a completed piece of artwork-you'll amaze yourself!  For ages 11+. Coffee and cookies are provided. Must pre-register.

Babysitting Clinic (CABS Child & Babysitting Safety)

Learn the responsibilities of being a prepared, safe, responsible and professional babysitter.  Topics include starting your own babysitting business, child development, behavior guidance, supervision, proper feeding & diapering techniques, personal safety, medical emergencies, basic first aid care and fire safety.  Students receive a Child & Babysitting Safety book and certification card. This course is developed by the American Safety and Health Institute and taught by Kari Fairclough. For students in 4th-8th grades.

Home Alone

The reality of being home alone can evoke fear and anxiety in many children.  Whether left alone for an hour after school or several hours a day during the summer, children should feel comfortable being alone.  This workshop for children will address several topics relating to being home alone, including personal safety tips, tricky people, basic first aid, fire safety, handling the unexpected, internet safety, gun safety, dealing with loneliness and boredom, storm safety, dealing with siblings and trust & honesty.  Parents are encouraged to review the take-home information and discuss it with their child. Students attend this class independently.  *Don't forget to send a note with your child's teacher so they can stay after school. For students in grades 3-6.

*We’ll start up again in May and run into the summer.  Please check back for more information as we get closer to Spring. We’ll send out information to the Elementary classrooms, post on the school’s Comm. Ed. page and have it on the school’s facebook page.  You can always call or email the Community Ed. office as well.
