The Health Occupations program is a year long program offered through Mercy Hospital and Health Care Center. This program exposes students to a wide variety of health related careers. Students participate in 4 different classes within the program.

First Responder
Students complete 40 hours of mandatory coursework and a state test to become certified First Responders in their community.

Career Exploration
Career Exploration is an introductory course to various health occupations. The course includes classroom experiences as well as the shadowing of multiple disciplines. Students receive basic information on health care professions in order to make informed career choices.

Nursing Assistant
The Nursing Assistant class introduces concepts of basic human needs; health/illness continuum and basic nursing skills in long term care environments as well as basic nursing principles in caring for the client at home. Skills are taught in a simulated laboratory setting utilizing demonstration and role-playing. Upon successful completion of classroom studies, the student will participate in 24 hours of supervised clinical experience in a long-term care facility.

Medical Terminology
The Medical Terminology course provides a foundation of basic medical terms used in the health care field. This class is worth 1 college credit.
