Shelly Olson's 5th Grade
Hello! I have been teaching at Moose Lake Elementary school since
1990. I first taught a variety of subjects, including two years in sixth
grade. Then I taught kindergarten for 17 years! I've been teaching fifth grade ever since and love it! I love reading really great novels for kids with my class, learning about American History, and working on math skills. My favorite part of fifth grade is our annual field trip in May to the Laurentian Environmental Center where we learn about science in a fun hands-on way. Fifth grade rocks!
I have been happily married to Paul (6th grade teacher) for over 25
years. We have 3 children of our own, two of them out on their own, and the youngest still at home. We spend our free time running around to
his sporting and music events. We have two pets: Artie Cat and Loki, our fun-loving labrador retriever.
My philosophy as a teacher is to provide a stimulating environment
focusing on the academics of the school year while at the same time
encouraging social development through other experiences. After all,
while the academics of fifth grade are very important, my goal is to
ultimately help to produce good engaged citizens.
